C A L I F O R N I A

I`m not a globetrotter or something else but I like very much travelling and to know many places throughout Chile or around the world if I have the opportunity to do it.

I would like to visit many countries around the world but in this moment, if I had to choose any country, I would choose EE.UU, specifically Los Angeles, the most populous city in the California’s state.

I’d choose this place because I have a good friend there. Her name is Laura and she’s 22. She was for one year an exchange student here in Chile and I met her in a class of Psicología Social last year. From that moment we didn’t give up talking each other and finally we made a beautiful friendship.

I don’t know a lot of things about that country and that city, but I know that U.S.A is called “the country of opportunities” and is a very popular and controversy country especially after the terrorist attack occurred in September 11^th, 2001.

I would like to visit all the states as I could, but above all the state of California. I would like to know these fantastic beaches that I saw in movies and series and I would like to know the UCSB (University of California, Santa Bárbara), because this is the University where my friend Laura studies, she always told me about how was it and about she did there. It sounds great. For that reason I would like to go to California to study a year for an exchange, so in this way I could visit to my dear friend in her city and her University too.

CHRISTMAS

Christmas is an annual celebration where the people commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. This commemoration is done generally on December 25 as a religious and cultural holiday. I don´t know what is exactly the origin of Christmas but, according to Wikipedia, today, whether or not the birth date of Jesus is on December 25 is not considered to be an important issue among mainstream Christian denominations; rather, celebrating the coming of God into the world in the form of man to atone for the sins of humanity is considered to be the primary meaning of Christmas.

In my opinion, whether or not the birth date of Jesus Christmas is a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the son of God, in a stable from the humble village from Belen.

I celebrate the Christmas day every year with my family (parents and sister) with a delicious dinner and then we give the presents that we have to each one.

I like very much Christmas time because is a beautiful day to share and to be with the family and the beloved ones and because generally I`m on vacations in this time.

Well, I only want to say: Marry Christmas dear classmates and teacher!!!

This term...

Hi!

Well, my name is Carolina Moreno and I`m in third of psychology.

My expectations for this new term are: 1) A term very short and compressed 2) The more hot term of my life and 3) a term with a lot of protest from students and workers.

In this short semester I take 7 subjetcts!! Five of them are of my career: Screening neuropsicológico (my favorite subject), Intervención comunitaria,  Salud mental laboral, Asesoramiento a instituciones educativas and Psicopatología infant-juvenil. One is a CFG: “El arte del cine: principales movimientos, escuelas y tendencias” and the subject of my blog: English 4.

I don´t like very much have to study in Christmas time because I`ll not can enjoy this beautiful holyday like every year. First, because I`ll be stressed and worried about my homeworks, tests and reports and second because I don´t have many money! And I`ll not can to do all presents that I want.

I would like that in this term all the people from the campus play to “water`s war” every friday!! =D This summer will be very very hot and we need to cool down.

¿What I could write in this post?

Really I didn´t know about what to write, but thinking and thinking I had one idea related with English: my gringa friend called Laura!

About Laura…

Her name is Laura Philpott and she is 21. I and my friends called her “Lora”, because this way is pronounced her name in English jajaja

 Laura arrived to Chile in august of 2010 and she decided stay for one year here, therefore she goes back to EE.UU. in august from this year. Laura lives in Los Angeles California but she bored in San Francisco. She’s in third year of psychology in Santa Barbara’s university in California. All the people ask her: why Chile??!!!!, and she say: I don´t know! Only were the country and the university that had a similar program of psychology that the program from Santa Barbara. Anyway I know that she is happy with her choice and I and her Chilean friends too, she is really a good person, very nice and funny and she is very dear by all the people that meet her.

I knew to Laura in a class of last semester called Psicología Social II, and from that moment, little by little, we have made a nice friendship =). We do the homework together and moreover we go out with our friends and have fun! She always makes me laugh with her “Espanglish” language, LOL.

The sad goodbye

She leaves Chile the lasts days of June because before to go back to U.S.A in august she will go to Bolivia with a gringa friend and later she will visit Perú.

Laura promised come back to Chile and I promised her to go to EE.UU. to visit her some day. I hope that both keep our promise because promises are promises!!!! J

GUSTAVO CERATI

I think that an interesting topic to post in my blog is about one of my favourite singer: Gustavo Cerati.

¿How I find him?

I knew this fantastic music, singer and composer for a CD that a gas station called COPEC gives to my dad. In this CD there were many Latin’s bands of 80’, and one of them was Soda Stereo. I was only a child, I was around ten years old, and this kind of music wasn’t the typical to my age, but from that moment I loved his voice and his music style.

Soda Stereo

Soda Stereo was one of the most influential and important rock bands of all time of the hispanic music and of the latin rock. This band was formed in Buenos Aires in 1982 by Gustavo Cerati (singer-songwriter and guitarist), Héctor “Zeta” Bosio (bass) and Carlos Alberto Ficicchia (Charly Alberti, on drums) and in 1997 they broken up for personal problems.

            About the middle of 2007 the band announced his return to make only one continental tour called “Me Verás Volver” where attended more than a million of fans.

My sister and I had the opportunity to go to this amazing recital in the estadio nacional in 2008. This summer’s day was great; we were very excited and happy about the recital. We arrived to stadium very early, around 15:30, and the recital started to 21:00 hrs and the first thing that we did was to buy posters and head bans of the band. Our sweet mom prepared us delicious sandwiches to eat while we waited to see them.

The concert was really fantastic, my sister and I were the youngest in the public!!! LOL but we didn´t care because we were the most cheerful in the concert.

No doubt it was the best concert ever =)

Pitifully the Gustavo’s health isn´t good, I really hope he gets better soon

Memories

This appetizing picture was taken in Puerto Montt, specifically in Angelmo. All began when my godmother invited to me and my sister to go on vacation with her family to Puerto Varas. My sister and I were very excited about this travel because long time ago we didn`t go to this beautiful place of south of Chile.

In the second day of vacations my godmother proposed us travel to Angelmo, because is a very popular place in Puerto Montt and it’s located very near from Puerto Varas, to half hour around. Before my sister and I went on vacation, our parents entrusted us cheese from Angelmo, because is completely natural and really delicious, and don´t sell it in Santiago. Then this was the perfect occasion to buy this fabulous cheese.

When we arrived to Angelmo, my sister and I began to look for the cheeses. Cheeses were at the final of that fair, and there were around five shops of cheese!!. We were very happy seeing a lot of cheese. At that moment my sister  took a picture of that fantastic moment.

I like very much this picture for two reasons: one, because is the proof that we went to Angelmo to buy cheese that mom and dad wanted. They know the the cheeses from Angelmo so we couldn’t deceive them. And second, because it´s a nice memory of this moment and this delicious cheese that we ate only in a week!

Finally we bought one piece of cheese, took it to Santiago and we and our parents were very happy =)

The Electric Blanket

The master piece of technology is the electric blanket. It’s a blanket with an integrated electrical heating device usually placed below the bottom bed sheet. The electric blanket may be used to pre-heat the bed before use or to keep the person warm while is in bed. This electrical appliance generally has a thermostat to adjust the heat that this blanket produces.

I got this wonderful piece of technology when I was twelve, and of this moment I’m an addict of it. Contrary to other persons, I use the electric blanket only to pre-heat the bed before go to sleep and I never leave it switch on all night. I use it every day in winter!, but in summer I get out it of my bed.

The main reason I use the electric blanket is because I'm always cold!, and even more in winter. So I never feel cold when I sleep and I have a very good night. I think that my life without it would be very colds and with many sleepless winter nights.

Definitely the electric blanket is the best human invention!!! =)

Superman, the best superhero

My favorite superhero is Superman.  He was created by writer Jerry Siegel and the artist Joe Shuster in 1932. The principal character's appearance is: a blue, red and yellow costume, with a cape and a stylized "S" on his chest.

The original story relates that he was born on the Kripton planet before being sent to earth when he was a child. Superman was discovered and adopted by a Smallville farmer and his wife. The child is called Clark Kent and his new parents imbued him with a strong moral compass. Very early he discovered his superhuman abilities, which he uses for the benefit of humanity. As Clark Kent Superman lives with the humans as a “shy reporter” for the Metropolis newspaper Daily Planet. There he works with the reporter Lois Lane, with whom he is romantically linked.

Superman's personality is rough and aggressive with a strong moral compass. The values that he represents to me are a strong engagement with the humanity and a big love to the earth and Clark Kent’s family and friends.

I like this superhero because he has some extraordinary powers!!! Superman's famous arsenal of powers has included: flight, super-strength, invulnerability to non-magical attacks, super-speed, vision powers, super-hearing, and super-breath.

Jerome Brunner

In my field, the psychology, I admire Jerome Bruner. Hi is an American psychologist who has contributed to cognitive psychology and cognitive learning theory in educational psychology.

            One of his works has been to distinguish three basics ways whereby the man represents his mental models and the reality: 1. Enactive representation (action-based), 2.Iconic representation (image-based) and 3.Symbolic representation (language-based).

            I like Jerome Bruner because his theory has had important implications in the education and in the pedagogy. I like very much his interest about the evolution of cognitive child’s abilities.

            One of his criticisms is in the fact about which many important things that the culture suggests has been forgotten in the school.

            Some important masterpieces are:

• Child's Talk: Learning to Use Language (1983)

I hope my second grade classmates like this important man and his theory because they will see him in the Psicología del desarrollo’s class.

Hello my dear classmates!

Through this piece of writing I want you to know more about me and what are my objectives during this blog experience. Well, as you know, my name is Carolina Moreno, I’m 21 years old, I am studying Psychology at Universidad de Chile, and I live in Maipú with my parents. I have only one sister, her name is Gabriela. Our relationship as sisters is great, because we always are doing things together, she is so funny and also a good friend. One of my favorite things I enjoy in life is dancing. I think you can be free moving your body wherever you want. It’s so cool! In fact, this semester I took an artistic subject called contemporary dance. Related on what is my greatest this semester is that my English can be better, especially in writing and also I hope do not make a lot of grammatical mistakes.

My favorite movie

This great movie is set in 1999 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and it was told in racconto form.

It was directed by Juan José Campanella and written by Eduardo Sacheri and Juan José Campanella.

I saw this film in my holidays this year, with my best friends. That day was great because we went to a fantastic pool in La Reina in the afternoon, and with this fascinating film that we saw atnight, my day was even better.

It`s a drama film, and it stars Ricardo Darín and Soledad Villamil who play the main roles.The story is about a man (Benjamín Espósito) who is recently pensioner, and worked all his life in a criminal court. Therefore he decides writing a novel based in a real story in which he has been witness and protagonist. The novel he writes is, apparently, a story about a murder in which takes place in Buenos Aires, 1974 and from an investigation to find the guilty.The interesting thing of this movie is that the protagonist will be able to dive in his own feelings, behaviors and decisions.

It’s important to know that this film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language  at the 82nd Academy Awards.

I like this movie because the plot is about a crime and I like very much this kind of movies, besides this film is spoken in my favorite language, Spanish. Also because is a very interesting film that is not boring, is not predictable and mix my two favorite genders, drama and love.
